The ride, which startled a few early risers, was the idea of young Oxford film director Vicky Jewson 22, from Boar's Hill, Oxford who donated £5 to Maggie's Center for each rider who dared to bare all. "This will be a fantastic opportunity for women all over Britain to do something fun and outrageous in aid of charity.," she said. Maggie's Center is a place that anyone affected by cancer can turn to for help and support. "Having naked Godiva's riding through London is a great way to raise awareness - and also to celebrate the release of Lady Godiva on DVD."
The naked ride was led by Miss Jewson's sister Libby, 19, who plays Penny in the film Lady Godiva, a modern day take on tale about one girl's triumph over adversity. Libby didn't actually get naked in the film, but rode naked on horseback through Oxford to bring a bit of saucy fun to the event. She did not get enough naked horseback riding the first time and encouraged as many women as possible to joinm her this time around recreating Lady Godiva's historic ride in 1057. Libby said: "The second time was definitely not as daunting. Once your clothes are off and you're up it's actually quite exhilarating. I definitely recommend it."
Up to 50 women bared their all, or stripped down to a slim pair of knickers, for the cancer charity.
Among the naked riders was Oxford's 107.9 FM 'Girls Talk' presenter, Rosie Tratt, who gallantly volunteered to partake in the campaign. Rosie said: "I can't believe I actually did it. It was one of the most outrageous and exciting things I have ever done."
