Female Streakers Help Trigger Riot at Resort

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Four naked women streaking through this ski resort town helped trigger a riot early Saturday. Fifteen people were arrested.
Police Chief William LaBrie said the riot began 15 minutes into the new millennium when officers caught and arrested three of the women. About 400 people spilled out of the surrounding bars and pelted police with bottles, snowballs, rocks and fireworks, LaBrie said.
The 12 men arrested were released from jail Saturday as they sobered up, police said, and the three streakers were each freed on $150 bail. Police said they had a good description of the fourth woman.

During a Flaming Lips show one of the two dozen fan club members recruited to dance on the Playstation/Billboard.com Stage as either white mice, abominable snowmen or polar bears decided to ditch the costume and embrace Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. Something about the moment and music – specifically “Silver Trembling Hands,” with its line about “when she gets high” -- must have inspired her. Coyne rolled with it until a member of the band’s crew finally corralled her and ushered her away.

The impromptu streaker was in keeping with a theme. The show opened with a psychedelic video of a dancing woman who laid down spread-eagle with a brilliant white light shining from her…birth canal. A door in the screen opened and drummer Kliph Scurlock, bassist Michael Ivins and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd emerged from the, uhh, light. They were thus symbolically “born,” in keeping with the title of the band’s current “Embryonic” CD.

ASHLAND, Ore. Jen Moss is known as "Ashland's Naked Lady." Since 2008 the smiling girl, has biked around town in just a g-string, a hit with the city's men, despite her less than stunning looks. But the town's city council adopted a ban on public nudity wich was signed by the mayor. The order was to takes effect in February. Other incidences of people exposing themselves added to percieved need for a ban. This meerly extend a ban on exposing of genitalia in parks and downtown. The decision brought a threat of legal action from the American Civil Liberties Union, which says it violates the Oregon Constitution's protection of free expression. In 1985, the Oregon Court of Appeals upheld Portland's ban on public nudity. But the court also ruled that public nudity can be a protected form of expression, such as during a protest. But that's exactly what Moss says she is doing. "I just wanted to stand up for evolution," she said. "In Europe it's no big deal to see naked people. It will be nice when Americans have evolved and they won't even notice that I'm naked anymore." And it is not about sex. she says, "I do not watch pornography and I support committed, monogamous relationships based on mutual respect. I do believe people have the right to do pornography, but it drains the human soul. Sex is sacred and is about making love, not war." Moss's parents moved to Ashland from Ojai, Calif., because of its lax public nudity law. Moss quit her waitress job over "concern about pesticides, herbicides, chemical use and cruelty to animals." She has now been working as "kind of a life coach for people," and is looking for a new job. (CBS/AP)

Public lewdness charges against Kathleen Neill "K.C.," 26, were dismissed on a Monday in November 2009 by a New York judge after she posed for a nude photo shoot at the Metropolitan Museum of Art while visitors were present. Kathleen was arrested on August 26 during photographer Zach Hyman's shoot in the arms and armor department in the Met.

"Well, how else could I feel aside from ecstatic!," the 22-year-old photographer said. "I'm wondering how much artists might be able to use this case to their advantage in the future."

This was the first time one of Hyman's models had been arrested, though he has snaped nudes in public spaces for the last several months. Another photograph of a model disrobing in a subway car received media attention. He keeps bail money handy, brings a lookout for police and keeps his lawyer on speed dial.

Inspired by the nude paintings in the museum. he preperared for the museum shoot. His team-of-six entered the gallery around 4 p.m. on Wednesday to see if the coast was clear. "We mapped out the plan, scoped out the scene, got in one by one," Hyman said. "It almost felt like a heist." Hyman timed it for when the guards weren't watching. He then directed Kathleen to disrobe in full view of visitors for a 15-second photo shoot. A female guard, however, quickly returned and entered the gallery mid-shoot. Neill grabbed her clothes as the team dispersed, but couldn't make it out fast enough, and was removed from the museum in handcuffs. No one else was arrested. "It's ironic to get caught in an art museum, since that's what we're doing here," Hyman explained. In this case,

Defense lawyer Thomas J. Hillgardner says Neill did nothing indecent while posing in an institution which is full of depictions of nudes. He says she was making art and noted that court rulings saying public nakedness isn't necessarily lewd. "The charges were completely ludicrous in the first place," Hyman said. "To see that everything was dropped is just a testament to the fact that, in this instance, a nude portrait was legally a-ok." Prosecutors said that they weren't sure they could prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. Defense attorney Donald Schechter says the museum is full of nude art, and to call what the model and her photographer were doing obscenity "is ridiculous."

 "What I'm trying to do is disassemble the idea that nudity is pornography." Hyman, a 22-year-old acting-school dropout, has taken nude photos almost everywhere in the Big Apple, including Chinatown and the heavily patrolled Time Square, in which he strategically placed friends near oblivious officers. "I'm doing it because it excites me and excites other people that are comfortable with their body," Hyman said,. "This is a little more innocent than a flasher. This picture is for me and the model."

People's private parts, he says, are "one of the unifying aspects of being human." Hyman snaps photos of male models too, but notes that photographing a woman in public is far easier than snapping a man. "People see a naked woman and they smile," he said to the paper. "They see a penis and they freak out."

During another August shoot on a subway car, one woman screamed while an elderly man started to shake. But most passengers seemed unfazed, according to the artist. The models are unpaid. Hyman says they pose because they believe in the art. "I'm just glad K.C. isn't behind bars," Hyman said. "I'm sure this is a huge weight off of her shoulders." Link to his web site. Pair of Streakers at Ranwick Race Course

The stupid part about it was that they did it while the race was being run. As soon as the field jumped they got on to the track near the 100 metres and staged their own race down to the winning post, absolutely starkers.
During the 1974 Doncaster Handicap people.a male and female on the grass track took their clothes off  before a crowd of 57,000 and charged across the racecourse to the gate. Ron Bickley, a commercial photographer, was there to record the incident for posterity.  He said the girl was terrified of horses, so her choice of venue for a nude prance was odd.  She wanted to come in but the old green coat barred her way. I said, 'Let her in', and he replied he couldn't - 'She hasn't got a badge'. I said, 'She hasn't got a stitch'.
''She put her arms around me and said, 'Help, get me over the fence' … They finally ushered her in and the coppers turned up. When the gates were opened they were pushed up against the privet fence and she was going crook about the privet 'sticking in my bum'.''
