Young Mum Streaked 'To feel alive again.'

5th Aug 2001: Catherine Marie Maher, 28 said that she streaked in front of 20,000 rugby fans wearing just a pair of sunglasses and a pair of big foam hands to "feel alive again."

This sounds like good therapy to me. Everyone would be happier if more women streaked to feel alive. Some phsychologist should recommend it. Laws should be relaxed.

She ran the full length of the pitch at rugby league side Brisbane Broncos' ground. They were playing against the Sydney Roosters. After her run, she danced under the goal posts before police and security guards escorted her away.

Catherine was sentenced to 40 hours' community service after pleading guilty at Brisbane magistrates to disorderly conduct and willful exposure. Outside court, Maher said she left her children with a babysitter expecting to be arrested. She said she was just a mother who wanted to feel alive again, although her husband disapproved of her streak.

"I have a list of things I want to do in life and that was one of them," she said. "This is the only way I can keep my sanity, what with being so involved with my children," she remarked contraceptively. "It lets me know I'm still alive. I've done bungy jumping and sky diving. I thought 'Well, streaking across a field is something I've always wanted to do', and I wanted to do it before I turned 30, so why not?"

I hope she is doing alright today.
